1. Giới thiệu bài thi IELTS Writing

Bài thi IELTS Writing được chia thành hai hình thức: Academic và General. Mục đích của bài thi Writing ở cả hai hình thức đều nhằm đánh giá khả năng trình bày quan điểm, sắp xếp ý tưởng chặt chẽ cùng với việc sử dụng từ vựng và cấu trúc ngữ pháp chính xác và linh hoạt.

Bài thi IELTS Writing gồm 2 phần: Task 1 và Task 2. Bạn sẽ có 60 phút để hoàn thành bài thi này.

1.1. IELTS Writing Academic

Hai phần trong bài thi bao gồm:

– Task 1: Bạn sẽ được cung cấp một biểu đồ (tròn, cột, đường), một bản đồ hay một biểu đồ mô tả quá trình sản xuất của một sản phẩm hoặc quá trình hình thành, phát triển của một loài vật và được yêu cầu giải thích thông tin, dữ liệu có trong đó. Ở phần thi này, bạn nên làm trong 20 phút và cần viết ít nhất 150 từ.

The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and banana in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.

– Task 2: Bạn sẽ được yêu cầu viết một bài luận với ít nhất 250 từ để đưa ra ý kiến, lập luận hay quan điểm về vấn đề được đưa ra ở trong đề bài.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Cấu trúc của bài thi IELTS Writing

1.2. IELTS Writing General

Hai phần thi trong bài bao gồm:

– Task 1: Bài sẽ đưa ra một tình huống cụ thể và bạn sẽ được yêu cầu viết một lá thư dài ít nhất 150 từ đề nghị cung cấp thông tin hoặc giải thích tình huống đó. Lá thư có thể viết theo phong cách thân mật hoặc trang trọng.

Ví dụ:

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You and some friends ate a meal at a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, and you were very pleased with the food and service.

Write a letter to the restaurant manager. In your letter:

– give details of your visit to the restaurant.

– explain the reasons for the celebration.

– say what was good about the food and the service.

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

2. Một số lưu ý khi làm bài IELTS Writing

– Luôn viết bám sát chủ đề, tránh viết lan man và lạc đề

– Ít nhất cần viết đủ số từ được yêu cầu

– Đảm bảo câu trả lời đúng trọng tâm, có bố cục hợp lý

– Tuyệt đối không được viết tắt trong bài

– Hạn chế đưa ra ý kiến cá nhân

– Kiểm soát thời gian thật tốt để làm đầy đủ cả hai phần

– Trong task 2, bạn cần viết bài đủ ba phần: mở, thân và kết

– Cần dành thời gian để kiểm tra lại bài để tránh những lỗi chính tả sẽ khiến bạn mất điểm một cách đáng tiếc

WRITING TASK 1
The bar chart and table give information about a country’s export earnings from five groups of products in 2015 and 2016.
It is noticeable that export revenues in all but one of the five product categories increased over the period shown. While petroleum products were the highest-earning exports in both years, the textile industry saw the most significant growth in earnings.
Export earnings from petroleum products rose from around $61 billion in 2015 to $63 billion in 2016, which was an increase of 3%. Income from engineered goods reached a similar level. The country’s export earnings from these goods went up by 8.5% to approximately $62 billion in 2016.
From 2015 to 2016, there was a 15.24% increase in export revenue from textiles, with earnings rising from roughly $25 billion to over $30 billion. By contrast, there was almost no change in the amount of money earned from agricultural products, which remained at just over $30 billion. Finally, the only decline in income occurred in the gems and jewelry product group, where export earnings fell by around 5% to approximately $40 billion in 2016.

WRITING TASK 2
According to some people, the extinction of plants and animals is the biggest environmental threat we face today. While I do not admit that this is a major issue, in my opinion, there are even bigger causes for concern.
The loss of some plants and animals certainly poses a challenge. It will break the food chain and cause problems. For example, when predatory animals like lions and tigers at the top of the pyramid disappear, it will lead to an uncontrollable increase in the number of herbivores. Unfortunately, this development will hurt farm yield as animals like deer, rabbits, and pigs will become vermin and eat up farm produce. This will lead to food scarcity all over the world.
On the other hand, climate change caused by human activity is an even bigger challenge. Due to pollution and the resultant greenhouse gas effect, global temperatures are rising. This causes the melting of the polar ice and the subsequent increase in sea levels. Major coastal cities all over the world are already facing the risk of getting submerged in the oceans. Climate change also leads to more frequent occurrences of droughts and flooding. This affects food production. Another issue is the health problems in both humans and animals. Many forms of birds and animals can no longer survive in the highly polluted urban areas. People living in such places are facing various health problems like asthma and cancer. If the temperatures continue to rise at this pace, the planet may become inhabitable two or three centuries down the lane. Obviously, climate change is a bigger threat than the extinction of wildlife.
In conclusion, the extinction of wildlife and the resultant loss of biodiversity is certainly a grave issue. However, climate change and the associated problems are even bigger challenges as they can threaten the very existence of life on the planet.
