1. Do you enjoy birthdays?

I used to love them a lot when I was a child since I had opportunities to meet my relatives, my friends, eat birthday cakes, and receive lovely gifts. However, I’m getting older and older so I feel they aren’t as much fun as they used to be. The reason is that I’m too busy at work and don’t have time to celebrate birthdays.

2. What do people in your country do to celebrate birthdays?

In my country, there are several ways people can celebrate birthdays. For example, they usually throw a party with the presence of family members and friends at home. The celebrated person will receive a birthday cake, best wishes and gift from celebrants.

3. How did you celebrate your birthday?

I was drowning in overwhelming loads of work at that time, so I didn’t do much on my last birthday. On that day, I bought a small birthday cake and prepared a meal for my family. After that, I met up with my close friends and hung out with them. It was simple but very meaningful to me.

4. Is it important to celebrate one’s birthday?

In my perspective, regardless of age, everyone deserves to have a meaningful birthday to mark another milestone of their life and share wishes and happiness with their beloved ones.

I would like to talk about a birthday celebration that I attended several months ago. It was a party for my bestie – Mai, who turned 22 that day. We’ve been friends for donkey’s years, so I couldn’t miss her important day in her life. 

The party just took place in her house. Her house was decorated with flowers and balloons for her birthday. She invited almost all of her buddies and we attended the birthday celebration together. Apart from us, there were more than 20 other guests on this occasion. They seemed to be unfamiliar with me but my guess was that they would be mostly Mai’s relatives, neighbors. 

I was surprised when I saw her huge birthday cake. There were 25 candles lit around the cake. We sang the birthday song when Mai cut the cake. After that, I gave her my gift and congratulated her and wished her a prosperous life afterwards. Then I enjoyed the party with delicious and well-prepared food and took part in some interesting games.

To me, this birthday party brought its own meaning as I could witness an important milestone of my best friend. It was a valuable chance for us to gather together, talk to each other about our daily life and share about our childhood memories. This party left a lasting impression on me.

People have parties to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, weddings, or the beginning of a new year. In my opinion, it’s vital to celebrate these things because they are milestones in our lives. Parties are a good way to bring people together, and they’re an opportunity to let off some steam.

2. Sometimes people spend a lot of money celebrating a party. Do you think it’s a good thing or it is a bad thing?

Nowadays many people spend a huge amount of money celebrating parties like weddings or birthdays. In my perspective, it’s a bad trend since it not only leads to a financial burden on the host family but also creates a sense of competition among the relatives to organise a better celebration for their loved ones.
